Northern Flicker woodpecker

This is a yellow-shafted male Northern Flicker. This woodpecker flashes bright colors under its wings and tail when it flies. These woodpeckers are very skittish and it's hard to get a good picture. A necklace-like black patch occupies the upper breast, while the lower breast and belly are beige with black spots. A black moustachial stripe identifies males at the base of the beak.
